Period:
Neoproterozoic

Age Interval:
Sinian (Ediacaran), Z (25)

Synonym: (营城子组)

Lithology and Thickness

The Yingchengzi Fm is mainly limestone and subdivided into two parts. Lower part is gray thick-bedded micrite limestone and stromatolitic limestone and molar tooth structures. Upper part consists of dark gray medium- to thick-bedded powder-crystalline limestone interbedded with thin-bedded powder-crystalline limestone. Wavy beddings are developed in this formation, with minor oblique wavy beddings, horizontal beddings and unsymmetrical ripple marks, with sedimentary features of scouring surfaces, birds-eye structures and desiccation cracks. The thickness is 117-894 m.

Lithology Pattern:
Limestone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The basal dark gray thick-bedded limestone is conformable with the underlying Ganjingzi Fm

Upper contact

Conformably overlain by the Shisanlitai Fm.

Regional extent

Southern peninsula of Liaoning. The Yingchengzi Fm is well distributed in Lüshun and Dalian area, where it thins from south to north, and has scattered exposures in the Fuzhou area.
